WHAT IS A STUDY CIRCLE?

A study circle is a group of 8 to 12 people from different back-grounds and viewpoints who meet several times (4-6) to talk about an issue.  A skilled facilitator helps the group focus on different view points and makes sure the discussion goes well.  In a study circle, everyone has an equal voice and people get an oppor-tunity to understand one another’s views; they do not have to agree with each other.  The idea is to share ideas and concerns and look for ways to better communities.

STUDY CIRCLES ON RACE AND RACISM IN CENTRAL VERMONT

Please join other central Vermonters for a series of small group discussions aimed at increasing our understanding about issues of race and racism, and what we can do to make our communities more inclusive.

FACING THE CHALLENGE OF RACE RELATIONS

Race affects where we live, where we walk, where we shop, the jobs we hold, and how we are educated.  People from all racial backgrounds and walks of life see the evidence of poor race relations and see the need to do something about them.

Study circles help people build the trusting relationships necessary for long term change.  People from diverse backgrounds and experiences develop trust, seek to understand each other’s experiences, and work together on solutions.
